2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility Performance and Durability are King

A wholly owned subsidiary of Ford, Troy Design and Manufacturing operates out of a 54,000-square-foot facility, where approximately 200 workers bring Police Interceptor vehicles to life. Law enforcement agencies can select from 125 packages, which include a variety of lighting options, wraps and styles. In the year 2015, an estimated 269,000 police-duty accessories were installed on 36,000 vehicles before shipping to police departments across the globe.
The Ford Police Interceptor Utility was developed with input from the Ford Police Advisory Board to handle the extreme rigors of police duty. Ford Police Interceptor Utility is the only Pursuit Rated midsize utility vehicle; Ford's utility and sedan versions are the only Pursuit Rated vehicles with standard all-wheel drive.

100,000 Ford Police Interceptor Vehicles Built

Employees at Troy Design and Manufacturing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, celebrated a major milestone on April 23, 2015 – production of Police Interceptor No. 100,000. Since 2012, the 54,000-square-foot Troy Design and Manufacturing upfit facility has been the single source for America’s best-selling line of law enforcement vehicles.

Troy Design and Manufacturing has the flexibility to produce between 600 and 1,200 vehicles per week depending on demand. It takes an estimated 5.5 hours for a vehicle to be completely upfitted with law enforcement equipment. Law enforcement agencies from across the United States – and around the world – can select from more than 125 packages, including different lighting options, wraps and styles.

RFID Speeds Vehicles Through Assembly

Troy Design and Manufacturing (TDM), a subsidiary of Ford Motor Co., is using an RFID-based solution to reduce the amount of labor time employees spend manually tracking work-in-progress (WIP) on paper.Three years after installing the system at the new plant—which converts various vehicles from Ford Motor Co. into Police Interceptor models—TDM found that the solution saves five to seven seconds from each workstation process compared with the amount of time required to perform bar-code scans, as well as enabling personnel to focus on the value-based work at hand. As a result, the firm has managed to outperform its expected production rates. Hear how RFID is being used to improve WIP data accuracy, reduce labor times and increase production output rates.
